This day highlights the importance of awareness, inclusion, and accessibility for people living with disabilities in our communities.

At Housing Choices Australia, we recognise the value of safe, accessible, and affordable housing in supporting residents with disabilities to live independently and stay connected to their communities.

One of our residents, Bobby Bajram, has lived with Multiple Sclerosis since he was a teenager. Having a secure and accessible home has given him the stability to pursue his passion for mountaineering, tackling some of the world’s highest peaks. Bobby’s story is a testament to the power of inclusive housing in enabling people to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. Read more about Bobby`s story via our previous posts.

Celebrating Australia’s national identity is important to many people. For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their commuities, 26 January represents a day their way of life – starting approximately 60,000 BC - was invaded and changed forever. For others, it can be a celebration of the survival of people and culture, and the continuous contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make to Australia. This is why 26 January, in addition to being called Australia Day, can also be recognised as Invasion Day, Survival Day, or a Day of Mourning.

At Housing Choices Australia, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment that acknowledges the significance of this day for all our staff and encourage respectful reflection and dialogue while promoting reconciliation and unity.
